This was my dream bike, and it’s still the nicest bike I’ve ever ridden. That’s high praise coming from someone who rides and talks about bikes for a living. But I’m selling this bike mainly because I’m a minimalist, I have too many bikes, and I feel guilty for not riding this bike as much or as fast as it wants to be ridden. And I just like the Wabi’s better. For lots of reasons that both make sense and don’t make sense.
Size: 56cm top tube, 55cm seat tube (center to center)
Origin: 100% made in Japan by the master builders at Level. I got it from NJS Export. Who knows where they got it from.
Condition: Signature small dimple in the top tube that NJS Export bikes usually have but otherwise rideable and clean. Everything’s straight. I tried pointing the dimple out in a photo, but it’s something you can feel better than you can see. Was probably crashed during a race at some point which is why it was for sale used. Bottom bracket threads install cleanly (thanks Velo Trap for retapping them).
Year: 2012, or so I was told
Tubing: One of the NJS approved ones, not sure which. Maybe Kasei 022 because this bike is bigger, and bigger bikes need stiffer tubing? Well, stiff for NJS tubesets, it’ll still be suppler than anything mass-produced. Maybe it’s a mix of different tubings? Level could probably tell you if you gave them the serial number (#1258) and emailed them in Japanese: https://www.level-cycle.com/contact/
Specs: 27.0mm seat post. Yes, the .2mm does make enough of a difference that it’s not compatible with 27.2mm and vice-versa. Watch this video for more measurements if you want to nerd out. Fits a 25c tire in the front and 28c in the rear. Maybe you could push the clearance a smidge. I didn’t.
Includes:
-NJS Hatta Swan Super Deluxe Headset
-NJS Nitto Jaguar Steel Stem, 115mm, -32 degrees
-NJS Nitto B123 Steel Track Drops, 37cm
-Nitto S83 Seatpost, 27.0mm.
-I’m still bummed I can’t use this seatpost on my other bikes.
Email me if you’re interested in buying, and we’ll set up a private sale: iam@zachgallardo.com
I’m prioritizing local buyers in Sacramento because it’s easier. If no one wants it locally, I’ll ship it within the continental U.S..
Ride on,
Zach
